KATHMANDU: The police resorted to using firearms to apprehend drug traffickers in Gothatar, Kathmandu.

According to Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office’s Police Superintendent, Rabindra Regmi, the police were compelled to open fire on Wednesday afternoon during an operation targeting drug dealers.

During the operation, an Indian citizen named Mohammad Karim sustained injuries from police gunfire. The police fired a single shot in response to the drug dealers’ actions, citing self-defense as the reason.

The police have taken into custody a 37-year-old individual identified as Harak Limbu, a resident of Ward No. 8 in Kachanakabal Rural Municipality, Jhapa. Subsequently, the authorities confiscated 200 grams of illicit drugs, specifically brown heroin, from the suspects.

Additionally, a pistol, three rounds of ammunition, and weighing scales were also recovered from the individuals involved in the drug trafficking operation.

Injured Karim, who was shot in the right leg, is currently receiving medical treatment at Kantipur Hospital.
