KATHMANDU: Assistant Inspector Tikaram Dhungana, responsible for the security of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his visit to the Annapurna Base Camp, passed away due to complications arising from high-altitude sickness.

Dhungana, leading the Ghandruk post, had been deployed to the Annapurna Base Camp to oversee Guterres’ security, as confirmed by the District Police Office in Kaski.

Upon his return from duty, ASI Dhungana sought refuge at the residence of the ward president of Machhapuchchre Rural Municipality-11.

On Wednesday morning, Dhungana was airlifted to Pokhara after experiencing severe breathing difficulties, but despite efforts to save his life, he could not be revived.
