Full implementation of constitution helps establish labor rights: Minister Sharma

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has stressed that laborers’ rights could be established with full-fledged implementation of the Constitution.

In her message of best wishes on the occasion of International Labour Day, Minister Sharma said implementation of the constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights has created bases to work adequately in favor of laborers.

“Nepal has witnessed several movements to establish the rights of the workers. The federal democratic republic has been established as a result of the big struggles waged in Nepal on the participation of working groups including farmers and laborers,” she said.

The Constitution promulgated on the foundation of the struggle of the people has established labor right as the fundamental right, she added.

Minister Sharma, also the government spokesperson, said the fundamental rights have included the right to proper labor practice, commensurate remuneration, facilities and contribution-based social security, establishing trade union as per the law and collective bargaining.

The implementation of fundamental rights including education, health, residence, food, drinking water, social security and employment has also paved adequate space to work for the betterment of the laborer group, she noted.

It has become possible to transform the lives of laborers in Nepal through prosperity with social justice, Minister Sharma said, reminding time has come to take resolution to bring changes in the lives of the people through economic, social and cultural transformation on the backing of political achievement.
