KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has pointed out that Nepal could be developed as the world’s sports hub.

Addressing the Policy-level Dialogue on Sports Infrastructures -2079 organized by the National Sports Council (NSC) in Kathmandu on Saturday, PM Dahal assured that the sports sector would be prioritized and promoted considering the possibility of paving ways for developing Nepal as World’s sports hub.

“I have accorded the highest priority to the sports sector lately. I have been awarding sportspersons, going to the field to boost the morale of sportspersons, and participating in sports-related programs. I am doing all this considering that Nepal could be developed as a sports hub in the world,” he said.

Emphasizing the need for the construction of sports units and sports grounds in each village and school across the country, the Head of the Government argued that athletes could only be bred at the local level through the construction of sports-related infrastructures.

“The way Nepal has been securing success in sports competition lately indicates that Nepal could make a huge leap if the State could pay attention to the production of athletes, development of physical infrastructures, and promotion of sportspersons. For all these to happen, the government’s support is necessary,” the Prime Minister argued.

Other participants in the event NSC’s member-secretary Tankalal Ghising, Bagmati Province’s Minister for Sports Kumari Moktan, Koshi Province’s Minister for Sports Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari and Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya among others called for clear policy and cooperation among the three-tier government for development of physical infrastructures in the sports sector.
