Impeachment motion has already been nullified; I came only to honor the parliament: Suspended CJ Rana

KATHMANDU: Suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana has claimed that the impeachment against him has already been nullified.

While replying to the inquiry in the impeachment recommendation committee on Wednesday, he said that the rules of the parliament regarding the impeachment were not followed, and he said, “The impeachment has automatically become ineffective.”

“As a citizen, I have come here only to respect the Parliament,” he added.

Chief Justice Rana has also accused the judiciary of trying to weaken him.

He said that he comes from the system and said that he will not work under the pressure of political parties and media.

The Committee is seeking clarification from suspended Chief Justice Rana about the allegations put against him.

Suspended CJ Rana is furnishing his clarification before the Committee at the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee meeting room.

The Nepal Bar Association and the Supreme Bar Association submitted evidence documents and links to media reports as evidence of the impeachment against Rana.

The Impeachment Recommendation Committee has been entrusted to complete its work within three months.

The House of Representatives decided to send the impeachment proposal against Rana to the Committee on July 31.
