KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to promote three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police on Thursday.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ishwar Babu Karki, who was not promoted to AIG, filed the writ petition alleging that the AIG promotion was not in line with legal provision.

The cabinet meeting held on Thursday morning had decided to promote DIGs Basant Kumar Pant, Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk to AIG.

The writ filed by Karki stated that the promotions were not based on seniority and work performance.

Supreme Court Spokesperson Bimal Poudel confirmed that DIG Karki’s writ had been registered and a hearing has been scheduled for coming Sunday.
