Drinking water shortage compels migration of 14 households



SANKHUWASABHA: Fourteen households from Chainpur Municipality-10 of Sankhuwasabha district have migrated to other areas due to acute shortage of drinking water in their places.

In the past two years, 14 households migrated to Tarai region from Ward No. 10, Ward Chairman Tet Bahadur Katawal said.

The families of Padam Rai, Purna Jit Jimi, Dhan Bahadur Jimi, Indra Tamang and Mangal Tamang migrated from Imkuwa village while Prem Bahadur Katawal, Ram Tamang, Govinda Katawal, Khagendra Katawal, Yam Bahadur Rai migrated from the Kalleri village for lack of drinking water supply.

Likewise, Chaturman Tamang, Singhaa Bahadur Rai, Gyan Bahadur Rai and other families shifted from the Salleri village while the family of Tikaram Khati from Jhiljhile village left for Tarai.

As high as 2,500 households in the municipality are reeling under severe drinking water crisis and the folks there are obliged to drink murky water from Piluwa river, which is two-hour away from the villages, a local resident Bharat Bhandari said.

Meanwhile, foundation stone of a lifting drinking water project was laid in Chainpur-10 with the support of Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, Chainpur Municipality and United World School, Nepal, considering the acute water shortage in the villages there.
