KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the time has come for a rebellion within the party.

Addressing a program in Kathmandu’s Chabahil on Friday, Thapa said since the coalition was only meant to win the election it is high time that the party needed serious cleansing.

Thapa said that the party was becoming a “weapon to get power” claiming that the parties were confined within the circle of elections.

Stating that voices were heard in favor of justice within the party, he warned that the party would witness a rebellion if the leadership did not mend its ways.

“The time has come to launch a major cleansing campaign within our own party,” he said, adding, “Time has also come for a major rebellion to cleanse the party.”

Thapa said, “If the current dissatisfaction was continued, the party would lose ultimately.”

He also reiterated his pledge of not letting the youth down, saying that the support of the youth has given him the power to eradicate distortions.

“In order to destroy all anomalies within the party, the need for a new kind of struggle has started to be realized within the party. The presence of youth has increased the strength of this. I will not disappoint the youth,” he said.

Thapa also came down heavily on the government for not giving priority to controlling dengue.
