KATHMANDU: The mortal remains of 10 passengers’ onboard the Tara Air aircraft that crashed in Mustang on Sunday have been brought to Kathmandu.
The bodies were initially taken to Kobang of Mustang from the accident site situated at an altitude of 14,500 ft at the base of Manapathi peak and were flown to Kathmandu via Pokhara on a Nepali Army helicopter.
The mortal remains will be taken to Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for postmortem and will be handed over to relatives, who were at Tribhuvan International Airport when the bodies were brought.
Preparation is afoot to fly rest of the bodies by Tuesday. Out of 22 people including the crew on board the plane, 21 bodies have been found. The body of one passenger is yet to be found.
Tara Air’s twin-otter aircraft, which took off from Pokhara for Jomsom in Mustang at 9:55 am on Sunday, lost contact shortly after takeoff. The plane, which had been searched all day on Sunday, was found at Sansure Cliff of Thasang Rural Municipality-2 in Mustang on Monday morning.
A total of 22 passengers, including two Germans and three crew members, were on board the plane.
