KATHMANDU: A five-day ‘Nepali Film Festival in London 2022’ is set to be organized in London, the capital of the United Kingdom.

Organizer Third Eye’s CEO Bikash Devkota said the film festival would be held in upcoming September in London and preparation for the same was underway.

Speaking at a press conference held to announce the festival in Kathmandu on Monday, Chairman Manoj KC of Sangiksha Films Entertainment, festival management partner in Nepal, said 10 films would be screened during the five days Nepali film fest.

“We will showcase films that portray Nepali identity, background and that would introduce Nepal to the world in London. This will help in expanding the market of Nepali film industry and promote Nepali art and culture abroad,” said Chair KC.

He also saw the need to inform Nepali diasporas about the progress of films made in homeland. “It is necessary for the Nepali audience abroad to know what is ongoing in Nepali film industry. Therefore, we are going to select and show only a few films,” he added.

According to KC, filmmakers will also be honored on the last day of the Nepali festival.

About three dozen filmmakers, journalists, advertisers and people from different walks of life from Nepal will participate in the festival being organized under initiation of Third Eye CEO Devkota.

Organizers said that the selection process of the films to be screened at the festival has moved forward. The selection ensures that films to be showcased in the festival will not have appeared on YouTube and aired on various television channels. Only 10 films released in the cinemas will be screened at the festival.

Third Eye Nepal chapter representative Hari Silwal said that preparations are being made to make the festival civil and grand.

Similarly, Bhesraj Karki, a member of the films selection committee, said authentic Nepali films would be screened in the festival.

Veteran actor Nir Shah, actresses Karishma Manandhar, Niruta Singh and actor Saroj Khanal, among others, wished their best to the festival and organizers.

Actress Namrata Sapkota, singer Bikram Jung Shah, actor Bhuvan KC, outgoing president of Film Journalists Association Nepal Sandeep Sapkota, film writer and critic Samipya Timalsena, actor Yashraj Grach, actress Pujana Pradhan, director Samjhana Upreti Rauniyar, senior photographer Bikas Rauniyar, singer Yam Baral, artists Daman Rupakheti, Suleman Shankar ‘Iku’ and others were present on the occasion.
