PM Deuba addresses Fifth BIMSTEC Summit, stresses stronger regional cooperation

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that regional cooperation is the only route to a more resilient, prosperous and sustainable Bay of Bengal region. In order to realize this regional aspiration, we must enhance the visibility of BIMSTEC and promote stronger partnerships with international organizations, he added.

PM Deuba said this during a virtual address to the Fifth BIMSTEC Summit held Wednesday in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The theme of the BIMSTEC Fifth Summit is, ‘Towards a Resilient Region, Prosperous Economies, Healthy Peoples’.

EC issues local level election directive, 2022

The Election Commission (EC) has issued the local level election directive, 2022.

As per the directive, any eligible person filing for election candidacy should self-declare his/her status- age, qualification, name in voter list, among others.

In addition to the self-declaration by the election candidate, the directive has incorporated the provision on election officer, chief returning officer, voting officer and employees.

The rights and duties of all involved directly in election are explained in the directive.

Dean Thompson to be next US ambassador to Nepal

Dean R. Thompson has been nominated American Ambassador to Nepal.

The White House, in a statement, said American President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Dean Thompson as Ambassador to Nepal,

Thompson will replace incumbent Ambassador Randy Berry.

FNJ celebrates 67th establishment day

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), an umbrella organization of journalists working for Nepali media, celebrated its 67th establishment day on Wednesday.

Protection and enhancement of civic rights, democracy, free press, freedom of expression, rights of working journalists, and professional rights of media workers are considered long-standing agendas of concern of the FNJ.

The FNJ, which claims to be a professional representative body of Nepali media persons, said the State was not responsive to its calls and dissent in regard to some provisions in laws being formulated from federal to local levels.

The FNJ organized various programs on the occasion of its 67th establishment day.

NEPSE witnesses bounce back, market rises by 40.68 points

The stock market, which has been declining continuously, has risen by 40.68 points on Wednesday.

At the same time, the NEPSE index has risen to 2,568.25 points after the remarkable bounce back today. The transaction amount also increased by Rs 2.25 billion.

It was a green day for all 13 sub-groups in the stock market.

Nepal’s bags second consecutive victory in tri-nation cricket

Nepal has reached the final of the Tri-nation International T20 series by winning Malaysia by six wickets on Wednesday,

This is the second consecutive victory for Nepal.

Earlier Nepal had defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 15 runs in the first match of the series played in TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

The top two teams in the series will play in the final for the title.

The Lumbini UML parliamentary party has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister KC stating that the CM was involved in irregularities in the contract awarded for the Lumbini Provincial Hospital building.

The contract for a 10-storey hospital building with 1,200 beds was awarded by drafting a specification with the intent of embezzling Rs 1.5 billion.

Gold price down by Rs 400 per tola today

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of hallmark gold has been fixed at Rs 98,800 per tola today.

Govt permits NEA to construct 400KV inter-country transmission line

The government has permitted the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to construct the second inter-country transmission line between Nepal and India.

The NEA has got the permission to construct the 400KV double circuit transmission line which will stretch from Butwal in Nepal to Gorakhpur in India.

The total length of the transmission line will be 140 kilometers, of which 20 km lies in Nepal and 120 km in India.
