Nepal Bar warns govt not to delay local election

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has said that elections at all three levels should be held on the basis of the constitution and the prevailing election law.

Issuing press statement in Kathmandu on Sunday, NBA General Secretary, Lila Mani Poudel warned that elections should not be delayed or postponed under any pretext.

“There can be no question of holding elections considering any demands, prejudices, favors or adversities,” he said, adding, “Letting the local level lie vacant will be not only against the constitution and other laws, but also a mockery of democracy.”

He recalled that NBA advocates for the rule of law, human rights, independent, competent, impartial judiciary, democracy, constitutional supremacy, transparent and accountable government, adult suffrage, freedom of the press, separation of powers, control and balance, and promotion of the rights and interests of legal practitioners.
