Local-level elections should not be deferred at any cost: Dr Koirala

BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr Shekhar Koirala has said that local elections should be held on time.

Talking to media persons in Biratnagar on Thursday morning, Koirala stressed that the periodic election should not be postponed under any pretext as it is a fundamental right in a democracy.

He argued that the government should resolve the election issue directly with the Election Commission, adding that the election should not be postponed by amending the law.

He said, “It would be better for the government to set the date of the election after discussing with the Election Commission than with the coalition parties.”

Meanwhile, Dr Koirala also said that the naming of Province No. 1 should be done with the consent of the party, adding that splitting the ministry and increasing the number of ministers would affect good governance.

“The province government should expand the government keeping in view the economic condition of the country and the state government should be transparent, accountable and accountable,” he noted.
