US Assistant Secretary of State Lu calls on PM Deuba, Foreign Minister Khadka

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu, who arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday, has held talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday afternoon.

Assistant Secretary Lu called on PM Deuba at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.

Earlier, US Secretary Lu called on Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka at the latter’s office.

Chair Dahal rules out formation of socialist center

Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has ruled out the possibility of the formation of socialist center at the moment. He, however, clarified that efforts were on to form a communist front in favor of changes for the upcoming elections.

“Discussions are underway to forge communist alliance for election. But, a decision is yet to be made,” he said while addressing the second full meeting of the central committee of party-affiliated Press Center Nepal on Friday.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma gets clean chit

The parliamentary special committee formed to probe the change in tax rates in the current budget with the involvement of unauthorized persons finally presented its report in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting.

Committee chairperson Laxman Lal Karna presented the report in the meeting on Friday.

In the report, the committee stated that it did not find the entry of unauthorized person in the Finance Ministry to change tax rate.

Nepal has written to US government to withdraw from SPP: Foreign Affairs Minister

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Narayan Khadka has said that the Nepal government’s decision of not participating in the State Partnership Program (SPP) proposed by the US Government has already been communicated to America.

Speaking in a meeting of the House of Representatives today (Friday), he said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already implemented the decision of the Council of Ministers not to take ahead the SPP and informed about the same to the American government.

Nepal’s tiger population reaches 355, meets global commitment

Nepal’s tiger population has reached 355, which means that Nepal has successfully doubled its wild tiger population, meeting the global commitment and strengthening the survival prospects of the species.

From an estimated 121 individuals in 2010, the numbers have bounced well beyond the national Tx2 target of 250 tigers in the latest survey this year, according to World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature.

Tiger numbers in Nepal have seen a steady rise since the St Petersburg declaration in 2010, when all 13 range countries committed to double the tiger numbers by 2022, according to WWF.

Nepali Ambassador to India Sharma meets Indian Foreign Secretary Kwatra

 Nepali Ambassador to India Dr. Shankar Sharma has held talks with Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Friday.

Ambassador Sharma took to Twitter to inform about his meeting with Foreign Secretary Kwatra.
