KATHMANDU: The Nepali Education Council (NEC) has demanded the use of the Devanagari script on embossed number plates.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, NEC asked the concerned authority to revoke the provisions permitting the use of the Roman script on the embossed number plate.

The council says that the English language is not understood by the general public and will hurt the self-esteem of Nepalis.

The Council claimed that using the English language on the embossed plate is against the Constitution of Nepal for the Constitution regards  Devanagari script as the official language.
