Local administration cautions people in Koshi basin area to take safety measures

BIRATNAGAR: The water level has invariably increased in the Saptakoshi River which shares the border of Saptari and Sunsari districts.

The river saw an increased level of water due to heavy rainfall in the eastern mountainous and Terai regions since last night.

According to Koshi Barrage sources, the water current was measured at 126,505 cube sec in the Saptakoshi River on Tuesday.

With the rise in the water current, 16 out of 56 sluice gates have been kept open. Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam shared that the embankment and spur however are safe despite a whopping rise in the water level.

Meanwhile, the local administration has cautioned the people residing in the basin area of the river to take safety measures in view of the rise in the water level.

In order to avoid any life-threatening incidents, the administration has also banned boating, fishing and firewood collection in the river.
