Five held for smuggling gold via Himalayan Airlines toilets



KATHMANDU: Police have nabbed the cleaning staff of the Himalayan Airlines allegedly involved in the gold smuggling.

According to SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the security officials deployed at the airport arrested Meen Kumar Mabo of Paanchthar and Suman Tamang of Nuwakot while transporting the gold smuggled through the toilets of the plane.

Tribhuvan International Airport Security Office recovered 2.332 kg gold from the janitors.

According to SSP Dhakal, the gold was smuggled from Dubai to the Himalayan Airlines toilet. Police arrested the cleaning staff while they were coming out from the gate meant for flight staff.

Police also arrested Rajesh Rai, 28, of Udayapur, Hem Bahadur Thapa, a 41-year-old taxi driver of Gaurishankar Dolakha and Tara Kant Chaudhari of Sungabha Suppliers and Sanitation Pvt. Ltd in connection with the smuggling case.
