Ruling coalition suggests holding local level elections by mid-June

'Govt to consult with Election Commission and fix election date'

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has suggested the government hold local level elections by mid-June.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said a meeting of ruling alliance partners held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday evening suggested holding local elections by mid-June.

According to him, the government will now fix the date of the local level election after consulting with the Election Commission.

The coalition meeting also suggested the government move ahead with the process of amending the Local Level Election Act if required, said Minister Karki.

Though all top leaders of the coalition were present, representatives of ruling Rastriya Janamorcha did not show up at the meeting today as they are said to be outside Kathmandu Valley for party work.
