Disgruntled Koirala faction organizes sit-in at Sanepa

KATHMANDU: Shekhar Koirala faction of the ruling Nepali Congress has organized a sit-in protest at the party’s central office at Sanepa, Lalitpur on Wednesday.

The disgruntled faction has run a vigilance campaign for ‘justice and equal opportunities,’ and asked the party establishment to amend the list of the proportional candidates submitted to the Election Commission.

Although the disgruntled faction is said to be led by leader Koirala and General Secretary Gagan Thapa, no central members were seen in Wednesday’s sit-in.

The Koirala Group has given an ultimatum to revise the proportional candidates’ list by September 30.

According to sources, the Prime Minister and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba decided to be liberal after sensing that the disgruntled faction could form an alliance with the main opposition CPN-UML and contest against the coalition candidates provided their demands are not addressed on time.
