Dr Baburam Bhattarai registers Nepal Samajbadi Party

KATHMANDU: Dr Baburam Bhattarai has registered a new political party, Nepal Samajbadi Party, at the Election Commission on Thursday.

The Election Commission (EC) has renamed Samabeshi Loktantrik Party, which was registered by Bhattarai’s close confidant Deepak Lamichhane some days ago, to Nepal Samajbadi Party at the request of party leaders.

Dr Bhattarai and his team have also changed the statute of the Samabeshi Loktantrik Party, which now is Nepal Samajbadi Party.

According to leaders close to Bhattarai, the party has selected ‘Open Eye’ as its election symbol.

Open eye was the election symbol of Naya Shakti Party Nepal which Dr Bhattarai had formed after quitting the Maoist Center in 2016.

Even though Nepal Samajbadi Party has been registered with the Election Commission, it has yet to submit the details of its central members.
