SC orders govt to make provisions for giving voting right to jailbirds



KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interim order in the name of the government to collect and update the name of prisoners to ensure their voting rights in the proportional electoral system in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election.

A single bench of Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan made such order to collect and update the name of jailbirds for the purpose of casting vote for proportional electoral system in the HoR election.

The order has also recalled that names of government employees, security personnel, Maoist combatants and jailbirds was stated in the temporary namelist and were given voting rights in the first and second Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.
