Six women vying for leading positions in Tanahun



DAMAULI: Six women have registered their candidacies for the position of municipality mayor/chair for the May 13 local level elections in Tanahu.

Four women have registered their candidacies for the post of Mayor and two for the post of Rural Municipality Chair.
Among them, Maya Devi Rana has registered her candidature for the post of chairperson of Myagdi rural municipality from the Nepali Congress. She is incumbent chair after defeating her UML rival in the last local level election.

Similarly, Anita Thapa Magar from Mongol National Organization has registered her candidature for the post of Byas Municipality Mayor. Anjana Thapa from CPN (Marxist-Leninist), Parvati Karki as an independent candidate and Meena Thapa from Rastriya Janamukti Party have also filed their nomination for the same post.

Likewise, Sushila Nepal has registered her candidacy from the CPN (Maoist Center) for the post of Devghat rural municipality chair.

However, the ruling alliance involving the Congress and the UCPN (Maoist), have been fielded only male candidates for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Shuklaganki. Likewise, the alliance of Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist) has fielded male candidates for the post of both Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bhimad Municipality.

It is similar status from the alliance of Congress and Unified Socialist to field only male candidates for the post of chair and vice-chair of Ghiring rural municipality.
