To form election alliance or not: NC in a Hamletian dilemma

Will today's CWC meeting take call on it?

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a central working committee (CWC) meeting even today.

The CWC meeting has been called at the central party headquarters in Sanepa at 11:30 am.

According to Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, the spokesperson of the party, today’s meeting will take a call on the electoral alliance for the upcoming local polls.

Despite assorted views on the electoral alliance arising from the CWC leaders, the NC is likely to take a decision in favor of the electoral alliance as per the principle of necessity.

“Some leaders have stressed on the need to form an electoral alliance in the upcoming local elections,” said Dr Mahat, adding, “The alliance is necessary in some places so as to win the elections. The CWC meeting called for Monday will take a final call on it.”

The meeting will also review a one-month-long door-to-door election campaign launched targeting the local level elections slated for May 13.

Some top-notch leaders including Ram Chandra Poudel are in favor of electoral alliance while Shekhar Koirala group is against the electoral alliance.
