Prohibitory order issued in Surkhet



SURKHET: The District Administration Office, Surkhet, has issued a prohibitory order from 8:15 pm tonight to 7:00 pm on Tuesday after the agitation against the ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement turned violent.

Chief District Officer Khagendra Prasad Rijal issued the restraining order to take control of the situation after attempts were made to vandalize and set fire to party offices and police posts in Surkhet.

Hence, gatherings in Subbakuna of Birendranagar in the east, Bangesimal in the west, Kankrebihar forest in the south and Kapase in the north have been prohibited.

CDO Rijal said that the protesters became violent and a restraining order was issued to prevent further damage.

The protesters had vandalized the offices of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) at Hatiya Line in Surkhet in the evening.

Police used force including firing tear gas shells to disperse the crowd that began vandalizing party offices and setting them on fire.

The agitators and the police clash in different places of Birendranagar today.

It may be noted that after the approval of the MCC from the House of Representatives on Sunday, eight different parties had called for a Nepal Bandh or nationwide shutdown today in protest.
