Chief Justice Rana summons meeting of Judicial Service Commission amid Nepal Bar’s protest

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has called a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission at 2 pm today amid the Nepal Bar Association’s protest.

Earlier, the meeting convened for December 21, 2021, was postponed without sitting. However, in spite of the Nepal Bar’s disapproval, Chief Justice Rana has called a meeting at 2 pm today.

While CJ Rana is chairman, Minister for Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu, Senior Judge of the Supreme Court Deepak Kumar Karki, Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati and Chairman of the Public Service Commission Madhav Regmi are members of the Judicial Service Commission. Law Minister Badu is in isolation at present after contracting COVID19.

According to the Judicial Service Commission Act 2016, the quorum will be fulfilled if two members and the chairman are present and the decision can be taken by a majority.

The agenda of today’s meeting is to form an interview committee by approving the results of district judges through open competition.
