Bhai Tika held across country

Brothers received tika from their sisters today, the main day of Tihar, the second biggest festival of Nepali Hindus.

On the fifth day of Tihar also known as Yamapanchak, sisters wished their brothers long life, health and wealth with respect, faith and loyalty by putting Pancharangi or Saptarangi tika as per age-old traditions.

After sisters put tika on their brothers’ foreheads, brothers also put tika on their sisters.

It is widely believed that worshiping one’s sisters leads to good luck and prosperity.

‘Bhaitika’ observed en masse in Rani Pokhari

A mass celebration of Bhaitika, the main and last day of the five-day Tihar festival was organized at the Ranipokhari-based Balgopaleshwor Temple on Thursday.

The temple is opened only once on the day of Bhaitika, and those, who have no brothers and sister to exchange the Tihar tika, visit the temple to receive and offer Bhaitika.

As per the tradition, those, who have no siblings and those who could not visit their sisters due to various reasons, reached the temple for receiving Bhaitika, according to the Kathmandu metropolis spokesperson Nabin Manandhar.

President avoids Bhaitika rituals

President Bidya Devi Bhandari did not offer Bhaitika to her brothers this year.

The Head-of-State refrained from the Bhaitika rituals and did not give ‘tika’ to her younger brothers this year as her parental family is mourning the death of their close family member, the Office of the President stated.

As per the Hindu practice, one cannot participate in festival rituals and pooja throughout one year since the death of one’s close family member.

PM Deuba abstains from Bhaitika rituals

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba did not partake in the Bhaitika rituals this year.

PM Deuba’s private secretary Bhanu Deuba said that the Prime Minister did not observe Bhaitika ritual as he is mourning the death of his younger brother, Prem Bahadur Deuba.

It is less than a year since the younger Deuba’s death and as per the Hindu practice one cannot participate in festival rituals and pooja throughout one year since the death of one’s close family member.

UML Chair Oli receives ‘Bhai Tika’ from sisters

Chairperson of the CPN (UML) and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday received ‘Bhai Tika’ from his sisters on Bhai Tika, the main day of the five-day Tihar festival.

His three sisters (Bishnu Maya Dhakal, Kaushilya Koirala and Bishnu Oli) offered ‘Bhai Tika’ to him at his private residence at Balkot in Bhaktapur.

Minister Karki receives ‘Bhai Tika’

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, received ‘Bhai Tika’ from his younger sister Tara Thapa.

The Minister received ‘Bhai Tika’ from her sister at latter’s residence based in Bhaisepati of Lalitpur on the auspicious hour of 11:37 am Thursday.

Minister’s younger brothers Devendra Karki and Dr Mrigendra Karki also received ‘Bhai Tika’ along with him.

52 succumb to mosquito-borne infection ‘dengue’ so far

Dengue has spread in all 77 districts of the country, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

It has claimed a total of 52 lives so far.

Meanwhile, as many as 43,685 cases of dengue have been reported in the country since mid-July.

Man arrested for misusing woman’s photo on social media

Nepal Police has arrested a person on the charge of misusing the photographs of women.

The cyber bureau of Nepal Police arrested Rabindra Bhandari of Shuklagandaki municipality-8 in Tanahun for posting photographs of women and other distinguished personalities along with abusive comments on social media.

Spokesperson of the Bureau and Superintendent of Police Pashupati Kumar Rai said that the arrest was made for causing unnecessary distress by using the victim’s photographs on social media.

Nepal sees four new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of four new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

Of the confirmed cases, three were detected through the RT-PCR method and one through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 354 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
