Nepal signs atomic energy-related CPF, reiterates commitment to disarmament

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Paudel has signed the Country Program Framework (CPF) related to international atomic energy.

With the signing of the CPF (2022-27) during the 66th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Nepal is eligible for receiving cooperation from the IAEA in the areas of radiation safety and nuclear security, food and agriculture, health and nutrition, drinking water and environment, energy and industry and nuclear knowledge development and management.

The Minister also addressed the 66th Session of the IAEA.

USD hits all-time high against Nepalese currency, breaks all previous records

The value of the US Dollar (USD) has made a new contemporary record in Nepal with one USD trading for Nepali Rs 130.90 on Tuesday (today).

The Central Bank, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), fixed the buying rate for one USD at Rs 130.30 and the selling rate at Rs 130.90 today.

The value of USD has broken previous all-time high records. On Sunday, the value of USD reached a height of Rs 129.89.

This is the first time that the US dollar has become so expensive in the Nepali market.

Election code of conduct coming into force from Wednesday

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to implement the code of conduct for parliamentary and provincial elections slated for November 20 from Wednesday.

Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Dinesh Thapaliya said the poll body made a decision to implement the election code of conduct, 2079, from Wednesday (September 28).

He added that the EC expected everyone’s cooperation in following the code of conduct and its implementation.

The EC had published the code of conduct in the Nepal Gazette on August 29.

Thamel marks World Tourism Day

A rally was held in the major touristic hub Thamel, marking World Tourism Day today.

The rally organized by the Thamel Tourism Development Council and supported by other various organizations originated in the Employee Provident Fund building area and concluded upon reaching the same venue by going through Jyatha, JP Mode, Chaksibari, Satghumti, Pipalbot and Amrit Science Campus.

NC closely watching activities of Koirala faction: Spokesperson Mahat

Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said the party was closely watching the activities of the Shekhar Koirala faction.

Speaking at a press conference held at NC central party office, in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Tuesday, Dr Mahat claimed that the closed list of proportional representatives (PR) candidates was prepared through consensus.

Stating that the closed list was not made by favoring any one faction, he said that the current protests of the Koirala faction were not in the interest of the NC and totally unnecessary.

Referring to the protests being held by the Koirala faction, he said that such activities were not appropriate and not in line with party discipline.

Meanwhile, NC office bearers meeting was underway to discuss the closed list of PR candidates in view of the Koirala faction’s dissatisfaction.

EC’s homework to fix election expenditure ceiling

The Election Commission (EC) is doing homework to fix the election expenditure limit for the candidates and parties for November 20 election of House of Representatives and Province Assembly as per the Election related law and code of conduct.

The EC held consultations with political parties today (Tuesday) in this regard.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that decision would be taken after holding discussions on the suggestions received from the political parties.

The political parties suggested increasing the expenditure limit fixed for the HoR and Province Assembly election compared to in 2017 and that the expenditure limit for different constituencies should not be the same.

Spokesperson Mahat to lead NC Central Publicity Committee for Nov 20 elections

Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has been made the coordinator of the party’s Central Publicity Committee for the November 20 elections.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, in accordance with the party statute, nominated central member and party Spokesperson Mahat as the coordinator of the Central Publicity Committee on Tuesday.

Manaslu Avalanche update: All injured rescued

All those injured in the avalanche that occurred at the Camp III of Manaslu Mountain on Monday morning have been rescued on Tuesday.

Of those 13 hit by the avalanche, 12 have been rescued alive and safely while the retrieval of the mortal remains of Anup Rai of Sankhuwasabha district remains a challenge owing to adverse weather, according to the District Police Office, Gorkha.

DSP Leela Raj Lamichhane shared that weather in the zone where the body of Rai lies began to deteriorate today as well. “It is difficult to retrieve the body as it is in a gorge from where the avalanche occurred. Since it is not possible to take out the body today, a helicopter will fly to the Base Camp tomorrow yet again for the same.”

According to DSP Lamichhane, of the avalanche survivors, four were rescued on Monday while the remaining eight were rescued today. The rescued ones are Kinu Pemba, 35, and Phurte Sherpa, 29, of Solukhumbu district.

Also rescued unscathed in yesterday’s disaster are Sukman Tamang, 27, Nima Sherpa, Nim Dorje Sherpa, 40, and Dawa Sherpa, 25, from Sankhuwasabha district.

Phurita Sherpa, 40, Lakpa Tamang, 37, and Jit Bahadur Sherpa, 44, of Dolakha district were also rescued, said DSP Lamicchane.

NEPSE rises 15.92 points to close at 1,831.05

 The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index increased by 15.92 points to close at 1,831.05 points on Tuesday (today). The share market has gone green after weeks of losses.

The NEPSE index registered a gain of 0.88 percent today. Similarly, the sensitive index rose by 2.54 points to close at 358.14 points.

The index opened at 1,814.71 points, which was the intraday low. After the market opened, the index went as high as 1,842.05 and ultimately closed at 1,831.05 points.

A total of 2,107,742 unit shares of 229 companies were traded throughout the day, resulting in a turnover of Rs 663 million.

Gold traded at Rs 91,400 per tola

The price of gold has decreased by Rs 400 in the domestic market today.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 91,400 per tola.

The price of yellow metal was Rs 91,800 per tola on Monday.

Nepal sees 54 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 54 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 42 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 12 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,829 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 1,729 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,100 through the Antigen method.

Nepal defeats Bangladesh 3-1 in a friendly

A rejuvenated Nepali national men’s football team defeated visiting national team of Bangladesh by 3 goals to 1.

Riding on a hat-trick by recalled striker Anjan Bista, host Nepal defeated Bangladesh in the international friendly football match played at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar today.

Bista score scored all the three goals in the first half while Bangladesh scored a consolation goal in the second half of the match.

Bista scored in the 18th, 27th and 38th minutes of the first half.

Meanwhile, Sajad Hussain of the visiting team scored in the 55th minute of the match.

Nepali Anjan Bista was declared the most valuable player for the match.
