Top leaders of ruling coalition in Baluwatar to settle seat allocation

KATHMANDU: The top leaders of the ruling coalition are engaged in ‘decisive’ discussions to finalize the distribution of seats for the provincial and federal assembly elections to be held on November 20.

The top leaders of the coalition gathered at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, on Wednesday morning. Today’s meeting is about to finalize the seat distribution.

The political parties are under pressure to finalize the list due to the fact that the nominations of candidates have to be registered on the Kojagrat Purnima day of Dashain, i.e. October 9.

According to sources, the coalition leaders have reached at an agreement in most of the 165 seats in the House of Representatives; the task force has also worked out on Sunday and Monday to settle the number of seats to be distributed in the provincial elections. The task force has submitted the lists to the top leaders.

The meeting that started at 11 am this morning is narrowing down the differences and has nearly reached at the conclusion, one of the leaders said under anonymity.

According to the leaders, out of 165 seats in the House of Representatives, Nepali Congress will get 80/85, CPN-Maoist Center 45/47, Janata Samajwadi Party and CPN-United Socialist Party 15/17 and Rashtriya Janamorcha Party 2 seats.
