Six people trapped in Manaslu avalanche rescued Tuesday morning



KATHMANDU: Six people trapped in an avalanche at base Camp III of Mt Manaslu in North Gorkha have been rescued early morning.

They were rescued by helicopter and sent to Kathmandu for treatment, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office, Gorkha, Leelaraj Lamichhane.

Yuvraj Khatiwada, Director of the Mountaineering Division under the Department of Tourism, informed that six people including two seriously injured people were rescued after the weather improved.

“They could not be rescued last night because of the bad weather,” he said.

Preparations have been made to bring two people who are serious to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Earlier on Monday, two people were brought to Kathmandu by helicopter for treatment.

Suk Tamang of Seven Summit Trek and Jit Bahadur Sherpa of Imagine Nepal are currently undergoing treatment at Karuna Hospital in Budhanilkantha.

It has been reported that one person died between the third and fourth camps of Manaslu in the avalanche that occurred around noon on Monday.

At least 15 people were injured in the avalanche. One of the seriously injured died and four others were rescued.
