KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center’s two influential leaders Barshaman Pun and Janardan Sharma have held a general discussion on Wednesday evening. Both the leaders have staked a claim for the General Secretary post in the party.
Leaders Pun and Sharma also touched upon the issue of the General Secretary in course of their discussion last evening.
After returning from China, leader Pun, who underwent a relatively longer period of medical treatment, told the media that he naturally aspired for the General Secretary post as he already served as a secretary.
Chairman Prachanda, however, is in favor of electing office bearers through consensus. In case, leaders Pun and Sharma fail to forge consensus, the Maoist chair has alternatively proposed Dev Gurung to be the party’s General Secretary.
If both Pun and Sharma stick to their guns, an election is certain.
The Maoist Center’s Central Committee, which is yet to get the full shape, is to pick office bearers.
The party has called a meeting on February 10 to decide on the remaining members of the Central Committee.
The 8th general convention of the party was held last month.
