Mha Pooja and Nepal Sambat 1143 New Year marked
The Mha Pooja ritual was observed by people of the Newar Community today on the fourth day of Tihar.
Mha Pooja literally refers to self-worship, making offerings to one’s body, highlighting on respecting the self.
It also falls on the Newari New Year which is based on the Newar calendar, Nepal Sambat.
The Nepal Sambat New Year 1143 was celebrated across the country by organizing various programs.
Goru, Gobardhan Puja observed on fourth day of Tihar
Goru Puja or ox worship and Govardhan Puja are being observed throughout the country today on the fourth day of the five-day-long Tihar festival celebrated by the Hindus in the country.
The Govardhan Puja rituals are being observed today with replicas of the Govardhan Mountain made out of cow dung.
People prepare a mixture of cow dung and ochre formed into a paste and apply it in the courtyard of their homes and on the floors today.
The rituals are linked to the Hindu God Sri Krishna who, according to the legend, lifted the Govardhan Mountain by his hand and protected the people of a place called Gokul from torrential rains caused by Indra, the God of rain.
Balgopaleshwor Temple in Rani Pokhari to remain open on Bhai Tika
The Balgopaleshwor Temple inside the Rani Pokhari (pond) in Kathmandu this year will remain open on the day of Bhai Tika, the last day of the five-day Tihar festival.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has carried out all preparations to open the Temple from Thursday morning on Bhai Tika, which is observed on the second day of the waxing moon of the month of Kattik as per the lunar calendar.
The Temple is opened only once a year on Bhai Tika.
Arrangements in place to ensure peaceful, impartial election: PM Deuba
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said all arrangements are in place for holding the elections to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly in a peaceful and impartial atmosphere.
It may be noted that the voting for the twin elections is taking place simultaneously on coming November 20.
In his address to a program organized by the National Luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa Foundation here today, the Prime Minister said support and cooperation from political parties and quarters were necessary to make the elections a success.
On the occasion, he garlanded the idol of Sakhwa at Shankhadhar Chowk, Madhyapur Thimi municipality.
EC determines specific criteria for election canvassing in media
The Election Commission has determined specific criteria to be followed by the political parties, election candidates and sister organizations of political parties for publicizing advertisements in the media in course of canvassing for the upcoming House of Representatives and Province Assembly elections.
Clause 15 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2079 BS issued by the EC stipulates under the conduct to be followed while using the communications media that the political parties can disseminate their election advertisements a maximum up to four times in 24 hours at least at an interval of one hour.
Similarly, the political parties can publicize their election-related publicity materials for maximum up to one minute at one time.
Nepal sees 16 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 16 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday.
Of the confirmed cases, 14 were detected through the RT-PCR method and two through Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,117 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
As many as 554 samples were tested through RT-PCR method and 563 through Antigen method.
