FNJ urges journalists to adhere code of conduct in election

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged journalists to play neutral roles in upcoming local election by adhering journalist code of conduct.

FNJ has also called upon its members intending to become candidate in the election to quit Federation’s membership.

Also, the FNJ asked the journalists to not work against the Election Code of Conduct, 2078 BS.

“At a time when FNJ has been playing common and neutral role, all members should also follow the suit to preserve its capital as a shared institution”, reads the statement.

As per the election code of conduct, media houses, concerned employees and journalists are not allowed to publish, disseminate and impart any materials on electronic medium such as SMS, facebook, messenger, twitter, youtube and Instagram for and against any candidate.

Likewise, such contents are not permitted to be shared, liked and commented, the statement added.

FNJ also cautioned journalists to be mindful of their main duty to produce and disseminate news in a fair and impartial manner without subverting the truth.

The FNJ is also monitoring its members’ role to collect realistic details.
