Security beefed up in Kathmandu Valley during festivals

KATHMANDU: Security has been beefed up in Kathmandu Valley, the federal capital, in view of the Deepawali, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festivals, said the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu District, Ghanshyam Upadhyay said the security has been strengthened to prevent any untoward incidents during the festival period.

According to him, all the three district administration offices within the Valley have fully implemented the security strategy focusing on the festivals.

CDO Upadhyay said that the Deusi-Bhailo cultural programme can be organized until 10:00pm. Before this, the District Administration Office had stated through a public notice on October 21 that the Deusi-Bhailo cultural program could be held only up to 9 pm during the Tihar festival.

The time for this has been extended by an hour in response to the public demand and security arrangements have been made accordingly, CDO Upadhyay said.

However, the prohibition on gambling, exploding fire crackers and drinking in a way likely to disturb social peace and law and order stands, the District Administration Office said.
