NSCCI elects new Executive Committee under leadership of Himalayan Airlines Veep Shrestha



KATHMANDU: The 16th annual general assembly of the Nepal Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NSCCI) has elected a new Executive Committee under the leadership of tourism businessman Bijay Shrestha.

The general assembly held in Kathmandu on Sunday unanimously elected a 26-member Executive Committee under Shrestha, who is also the vice president of Himalaya Airlines.

Similarly, Rajesh Bir Tuladhar, Ramraj Acharya and Mrigendra Mehar Shrestha have been elected vice presidents while Dr. Harish Joshi was elected general secretary, Deepak Maharjan as treasurer and Bidhita Shrestha and Prakash Oli as secretaries of NSCCI.

The new Executive Committee members are Anil Agrawal, Ashok KC, Bidya Sagar Tamrakar, Narendra Ballav Pant, Sunil Bhusal, Mohan Katwal, Rajesh Shakya, Prasanna Adhikari, Dhiraj Karki, Priya Ranjan (Pappu), Pom Narayan Shrestha, Manish Rajbhandari and Sudhir Pradhanang, Sunil Banshal, Sushil Shrestha, Rajju Tandukar and Sameer Shrestha.

The first meeting of new Executive Committee also formed various thematic committees.

Accordingly, the Industry and Investment Committee is formed under coordination of Narendra Ballav Pant, Finance Committee under Sunil Bhusal, Tourism Committee under Prasanna Adhikari, Infrastructure Committee under Mohan Katuwal and Social Security, Education and Health Committee under Rajesh Shakya.

Shrestha, the newly elected president, said with the formation of the thematic committee, the organization would enhance cooperation in areas of bilateral economic and social development by forming various regional chapters of the organization.

On the occasion, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Himali Subhashini Arunatilaka said that bilateral relations could be advanced as the economic situation of Sri Lanka was gradually improving.

Recalling the tenure of the then president of the organization Ramesh Maharjan, Ambassador Arunatilaka said MOUs signed between businessmen of Nepal and Sri Lanka at that time should be continued in the future.

Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, honorary member of the Nepal Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and the outgoing president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, said Nepal could cooperate with Sri Lanka for religious tourism as well as in the fields of tea, gems and jewelry and garment.

Stating that since both Nepal and Sri Lanka are members of the South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization (SAARC), he stressed cooperation between both the countries for economic development.
