Govt reduces petroleum product price, petrol Rs 179/liter and diesel Rs 163 now

The government has reduced the price of petroleum products to be effective from midnight today.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu informed on Saturday that the government reduced the price of petrol by Rs 20 per liter and diesel by Rs 28 by adjusting the tax on petroleum products.

Earlier, petrol was priced at Rs 199 per liter and diesel at Rs 192.

Earlier, at a meeting of the ruling coalition on Saturday, it was agreed to reduce the price of petroleum products by reducing the tax on petroleum products.

Missing ancient statue returns to Nepal

A ancient statue of Goddess Tara Raparvati has returned to Nepal from the United States.

The statue weighing 83 kilogram was unveiled at a program organized by the Department of Archeology (DoA) on Friday upon its arrival.

US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Manuel Micaller also joined DoA Director General Damodar Gautam in welcoming the ancient idol back home.

Director General Gautam said the medieval sculpture built around the ninth and tenth century was returned by The Yale University Art Gallery to Nepal. The announcement of the return of the statue was made on May 6, 2022, by the University.

New Indian Ambassador to Nepal arrives in Kathmandu

New ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon to take charge of his office.

Upon arrival at the Kathmandu’s Tribhuwan International Airport, Srivastava was received by Indian Mission’s Charge De Affairs, Namgya Khampa along with others.

Ambassadoro Srivastava is a career diplomat and he arrived from New Delhi where he was heading the East Asia Division that deals with China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia.

Succeeding Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the incumbent Foreign Secretary of India who completed his assignment earlier in the month of April, Naveen Srivastava will take full charge as Envoy to Nepal after submitting his credentials to Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

Incessant rain inundates 300 houses in Hemja of Pokhara

Over 300 houses in Hemja of Pokhara Metropolitan City-25 in Kaski district have been inundated due to incessant rain since Friday night.

The canal at Chaurashi in Suikhet of Hemja burst out and entered into human settlement leading to inundation of houses in Sundarichowk and Myagdichowk on Friday night, according to ward 25 chairperson Motiraj Timalsina.

Around 500 people have been displaced due to inundation and landslide.

Additional 15 houses are at high risk of inundation, it was shared.

No human casualty was reported in the incident.

Prisoner dies in Sindhupalchok

A prisoner died in a custody in Sindhupalchok district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Maite Gole, 49, of Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality-5, who had been in police custody on rape and murder charges.

He died at Chautara Hospital, said Rameshwor Prasad Chaudhary, chief of the district police office.

The jailbird collapsed all of a sudden this morning and was rushed to the hospital, he added.
