Independent KMC mayoral candidate Balen now close to victory
Independent mayoral candidate Balendra Shah is certain to become the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).
With less than 18,000 votes remaining to be counted, Balen is ahead of Sirjana Singh by more than 21,000 votes. He has received 56,148 votes.
Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Sirjana Singh is in second place with 35,478 votes.
Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Keshav Sthapit is trailing behind with 34,854 votes.
UML lost election due to cloak-and-dagger behavior: Chair KP Oli
CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has said that the main reason for the party’s defeat in the local elections held on May 13 was due to a conspiracy being hatched against UML within the party.
Speaking at a meeting of the UML parliamentary party held at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Wednesday, Oli said that the election was lost not because of other parties but because of UML.
Bibeksheel Sajha Party Chairman Mishra resigns
Bibeksheel Sajha Party Chairman Rabindra Mishra has resigned from his post.
Taking full responsibility for the election results, Mishra announced his resignation from the post of party chairman on moral grounds.
He has said that he will remain an ordinary member of the party.
“As the party chairman, I have to take responsibility for our candidates’ failure to achieve good results despite being” honest and competent,” reads the statement.
Newly-elected mayor of Dharan pledges to serve people, renouncing lavish facilities
A swanky four-wheeler with registration number Ko 1 Ja 640 arranged by the Sunsari district’s Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City was readied for the newly elected mayor Harkaraj Rai (Sampang) to ride while he spartanly assumed office on last Tuesday.
But in what came as a shockingly surprising twist was that the newly elected mayor announced to renounce the vehicular services provided by his office to the executive head of the sub-metropolis.
Harkaraj instead pledged to serve the Sub-metropolis having over 1.7 million populations riding on his two-wheeler (motorcycle).
CAN announces T-20 League teams
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has made public the names of the teams that will play in Nepal T-20 League.
The League will be held from September 24 to October 22 this year. The six teams were selected by the CAN’s board meeting, according to Acting Secretary Prashant Malla.
The League will have teams from Biratnagar, Janakpur, Pokhara, Lumbini-Bhairahawa and Far West.
NEPSE increases by 14.37 points Wednesday
The stock market index Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has risen by 14.37 points and reached to 2223.57 points on Wednesday.
The market, which had risen to 2243 points, had declined somewhat at the close.
A total of 24.94 million shares of 226 companies worth Rs 1.4 billion were traded on Wednesday.
Government transfers five secretaries
The government has decided to transfer five secretaries.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki shared this at news conference organized at the Ministry here today, in course of giving out information regarding decisions taken by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday.
