KATHMANDU: Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhankri has said the government would address the concern shown by the people affected by the landfill site of Bancharedanda.

Addressing an all-side discussion in the ministry on Wednesday, she said the locals near the landfill site had an important role on the management of the landfill so their concern could not be ignored. “It is our common responsibility to manage well the landfill site,” she said, expressing hope that the Bancharedanda landfill would help a lot in the management of Kathmandu Valley waste. The government therefore can’t flout local’s demand, she stressed.

On the occasion, a lawmaker elected from Dhading district, BhumiTripathi, suggested that the affected lands by the project should be acquired as per the suggestion of the technical team.

Similarly, Nuwakot lawmaker Hit Bahadur Tamang viewed the long-term solution should be sought for the management of waste in Bancharedanda. He suggested that local governments should be made more responsible for waste management.

Mayor at Dhading Dhunibeshi Municipality Balkrishna Acharya said it is a common responsibility of all sides for the effective management of landfill site at Bancharedanda. Practical sides of waste management should be focused, he stressed.
