48,197 candidates file nominations for May 13 local election
As many as 48,197 candidates have registered their nomination papers in the offices of election officers across the country on Monday.
According to the Election Commission (EC), 1,657 people registered themselves as mayoral candidates and 975 as deputy mayors. There are 293 municipalities across the country.
Nomination filing deadline for May 13 local election expires
Deadline for the nomination filing for the May 13 local election has expired at 5 pm today, Monday.
Candidates filed their nominations at their respective office of the election officer at 753 local levels between 10 am and 5 pm on Sunday and Monday. Two days were provided for the purpose this year, breaking with tradition of yesteryears.
As per the election calendar published by the Election Commission (EC), the nomination filing started on Sunday at 10 am and closed at 5 pm Monday.
Coalition leaders to urge all to elect alliance candidates
The meeting of the ruling coalition has decided to take initiative through its own mechanism to elect the candidate of the alliance parties.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the top leaders of the ruling coalition held at Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Monday morning.

NEPSE declines by 34.95 points Monday
The stock market, which had seen a remarkable surge on Sunday, has fallen by 34.95 points to reach 2,386.01 on Monday. Compared to the previous day, the transaction amount has also decreased today.
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), which had got the transaction worth Rs 2.53 billion out of 66,039,504 shares on Sunday, witnessed a decline of transaction amount on Monday.
Country imports fruits worth over Rs 11 billion while arable land remains uncultivated
Although agriculture has been a major sector of the country’s economy as the main source of livelihood, employment and economic and social transformation, it has been found that the country has been importing huge quantity of goods.
Agriculture sector has more than one-third contribution in country’s gross domestic product and more than two-thirds population are dependent on agriculture.
In the economic survey 2077/78 BS, the contribution of agriculture sector to the GDP was estimated to be 25.8 per cent.
