Renu Dahal files candidacy for Bharatpur Mayor

Disgruntled NC Chitwan leaders propose Jagannath Poudel's name for Bharatpur mayor

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center’s Renu Dahal has filed nomination papers for the post of mayor in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan.

The ruling coalition partners Nepali Congress (NC), the Maoist Center, the CPN-Unified Socialist (CPN-US), the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and the Rastriya Janamorcha had agreed that the mayor of Bharatpur  would be allocated for the Maoist Center.

Dahal, who is the daughter of Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with coalition leaders and cadres reached the office of the Chief Election Officer on Monday and registered her nomination.

She was accompanied by NC provincial lawmaker Geeta Wagle, NC’s deputy mayoral candidate Chitrasen Adhikari and Maoist center leader Madhu Neupane to the Office of the Chief Election Officer.

Meanwhile, representing a faction of disgruntled NC leaders in Chitwan, NC’s former lawmaker Jagannath Poudel also registered his candidacy for Bharatpur Metropolis mayor as rebel candidate on Monday.

Local NC leaders and cadres, who had been expressing dissatisfaction with the seat-sharing agreement struck among coalition partners at the center, had warned of registering a rebel candidate in Bharatpur Metropolis. Poudel’s candidacy is in line with the disgruntled NC faction’s warning to the NC central leadership.

Former NC Chitwan President Krishna Lal Sapkota proposed Poudel’s candidacy and NC Mahasamiti member Meena Kharel seconded the candidacy.
