KATHMANDU: The police have arrested a government employee at Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office on the charge of assisting the gold smuggler.
According to Pushpa Raj Shahi, the Chief of the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan Airport, Laxman Guragain, a non-gazzeted officer at the airport has been arrested by the police to inquire about his role in gold-smuggling.
On Friday, Guragain received 10 gold chains brought by Kamal Ghimire from Dubai and passed the customs check. Ghimire, who landed in Kathmandu from a Fly Dubai flight, was arrested and interrogated by the police.
According to Immigration Office Chief Shahi, Guragain is a store keeper. Police have recovered 10 gold chains weighing 1 kg Guragain sneaked from the airport customs.
Ghimire and Guragain have been kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle Gaushala.
