Meetings between NC, UML leaders remain positive on MCC ratification

KATHMANDU: The discussions between Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and main opposition CPN (UML) leaders have ended on a positive note for the ratification of the US government’s grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli along with other leaders sat for meetings on Thursday to discuss the ideas of MCC ratification, resumption of the parliamentary business and others, NC general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa said.

It is said Prime Minister Deuba urged the UML leaders not to take the issue of MCC otherwise since his party has stood in a single stance whether the party was in the government or in opposition and the MCC was an issue of national importance.

However, UML Chairman Oli urged the NC leadership for creating environment conducive for the UML to participate in the parliamentary process adding that UML was not present in the parliamentary processes lately though the party was positive on the MCC.

Thapa shared that the leaders of the two parties are also scheduled to meet today.
