KATHMANDU: Commercial production of potato seeds has started in Bahrabise Municipality-9 of Sindhupalchok.
The local community has started commercial potato cultivation in an area of 60 ropani so as to produce potato seeds.
Potato seeds are being produced with the federal government’s conditional grant of Rs. 2.6 million, according to Pitambar Ghimire of Agriculture Unit of the municipality.
Following a call for bid, the Setidevi Agricultural Group of a local financial institution was entrusted with the responsibility of producing potato seeds.
The group will use the funds to buy tractors, fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, hire workers and other things necessary to grow potatoes. For this, the Group has purchased 1,500 kilos of potatoes from Shailung and Mude, said Ghimire.
