Laxmi puja held, Kukur Tihar celebrated

The second day of Tihar festival is dedicated to the worship of dogs but this year, Laxmi Puja is also being held on the same day.

According to the lunar calendar, the celebration of Laxmi Puja or the worship of the goddess of wealth took place this evening instead of tomorrow. Likewise, dogs were offered tika and offerings in the morning.

Mahakavi Laxmi Jayanti marked

The 114th birth anniversary of Mahakavi (great poet laureate) of Nepali literature, Laxmi Prasad Devkota, is being marked by organizing various programs in the country and abroad today.

Devkota is one of the most influential and acclaimed poets of Nepali literature.

Poet laureate Devkota, born on Kartik 27, 1966 BS, on the auspicious day of Laxmi Puja of the Tihar festival has contributed a lot to modern Nepali literature with several masterpieces.

Deusi Bhailo in presence of President Bhandari

A Deusi Bhailo programme was held in the presence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the occasion of Tihar festival today.

The Deusi Bhailo was organized by Sanskritik Sansthan, the Cultural Undertaking of the government at the President’s Office at Sheetal Niwas.

Special songs and music and dance related to Tihar were presented in the program.

President Bhandari observed the entire presentation.

Woman crushed to death by threshing machine

A woman has died after being crushed by a running threshing machine today at Bhrritole of Kailari Rural Municipality-3 in Kailali district.

The deceased has been identified as local resident Bina Chaudhary, 45, spouse of Buthram.

The running machine pulled the shawl Bina wore around her head along with her in course of putting ripe rice plants in the machine for a thresh crushing her to death, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bed Prakash Joshi.

The incident occurred while threshing ripe rice plants in the rice field near her house.

Property worth Rs 7.5 million gutted in fire

Property worth Rs 7.5 million was gutted in a fire at Bajrabarahi of Thaha municipality-6 in Makwanpur last night.

The fire due to short-circuit completely ruined the house of Megha Bahadur Balami, Palung Area Police Office, Makwanpur said.

Gold price remains unchanged in domestic market

The price of gold has remained unchanged in the domestic market today (Monday).

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 94,400 per tola today.

The price of the yellow metal was Rs 94,400 per tola on Sunday as well.

Alliance emerges as shield against attacks on Constitution: PM Deuba

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the five-party alliance was formed with the main objective of safeguarding the Constitution and democracy.

Addressing a Bagmati province-level cadres gathering of cadres from the left-democratic alliance today, the NC President said the alliance aims to protect the Constitution founded on the federal democratic republic and the inclusion which were achieved following a tremendous battle.

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the upcoming November 20 election will be fought between two ideologies and principles.
