Maoist Centre Chair Dahal insists alliance not focused only on winning elections

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the upcoming November 20 election will be fought between two ideologies and principles.

Stating that the Left-Democratic Alliance has been formed for upholding the constitution and the inclusive and proportional republic, he said the election has pitted those who are on the side of the constitution and the republic against those who do not accept these.

The Maoist Centre Chair said this while addressing the Bagmati province-level cadres’ assembly organized by the Alliance here today in the run up to the election to the House of Representatives and National Assembly slated for coming November 20.

“Two kinds of ideologies, tendencies and cultures are pitted against each other,” he said, adding that the ruling Left-Democratic Alliance was on the side of protecting the constitution, the federalism and of proportional representation while the opponent coalition was against these values.

Former prime minister Dahal said that those parties that are in favor of forward-looking change will be taking on the parties opposed to these principles in the November 20 elections.

“Ill-attempts were made by the erstwhile ruling party leadership in the past to infringe the constitution and dissolve the House of Representatives. We all stood up against this attempt and the five-party present Alliance was forged amidst a struggle. Therefore, it is the need of the hour to make the Alliance’s common candidates victorious in the election,” the Maoist Centre Chair said.

According to him, the country would have landed in a big crisis had the power balance not been in favor of the Alliance back then.

Stating that the partners who initiated the peace process in the country and signed the 12-point Peace Accord were at one place, he said the Alliance is not meant only for the purpose of winning the elections. He argued that the Alliance was also concentrated on further building on the rights achieved by the Nepali people and on fulfilling the people’s aspiration for economic prosperity.

Leader Dahal stressed on the need of starting journey towards improving the living standard of the people through economic prosperity while keeping intact the spirit of the political movement and the revolution. He said the present ruling alliance was contesting the elections with the slogan of ‘Alliance for Stability and Prosperity’.
