HoR Committee concerns over issues hampering Jayanagar-Bardibas railway project

KATHMANDU: The Development and Technology Committee, House of Representatives (HoR) has expressed its concern over the implementation of a 35-kilomtre long broad gauge railway from Kurtha of Dhanusha to Bardibas of Mahottari.

The project is part of the Jayanagar (India)-Bardibas railway service which has been partially operational since last April.

A delegation from the Committee led by its President Kalyani Khadka inspected the project and updated itself about disputes in compensation distribution, progress status and possible ways for sorting out issues.

The team had also held discussions with the Province Assembly (PA) members here, Nepal Railway Company’s general manager Niranjan Kumar Jha, Dhanusha’s Chief District Officer Surendra Poudel, local level representatives and stakeholders concerned from the respective areas over the matter.

The PA members and representatives of the local governments suggested that the Federal Government should come up with a substantive approach to resolve the compensation-related disputes, pledging they are ready to take a role of facilitators towards that end, according to CDO Poudel.

On the occasion, Nepal Railway Company GM Jha apprised the parliamentary team that the railway service has been operational along the 35 kilometres section from Kurtha to Jayanagar section since April 2 and it was jointly inaugurated on April 3 by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. The total length of the railway is 70 kilometers. (RSS)
