Oli-Deuba meet: UML Chairman Oli raises four “key” issues

KATHMANDU: In what has been said as a “serious meeting” with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli raised four major issues raising concern over the government’s failure to consult with the main opposition while announcing the election date.

UML Chairman Oli reached Prime Minister’s official residence Wednesday morning and held talks with PM Deuba on “key issues”.

Along with him were UML leaders Subash Chandra Nemwang and Bishnu Paudel.

UML Chairman Oli asked PM Deuba the reason why the government did not consult with CPN-UML, the main opposition party while announcing the date for the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly.

The government has announced that the elections would be held on November 20.

He also drew Prime Minister Deuba’s attention to the fact that the elections should be free, fair and credible.

The second issue UML Chairman Oli raised was about the peace process saying that it should reach a logical conclusion.

The government has recently presented a Bill in the House of Representatives regarding the amendment of the Act on Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

UML has alleged the government of discussing the main opposition while bringing such bills.

Likewise, Oli also discussed the issue of the Citizenship Bill, which has been endorsed by the House of Representatives for the second time.

Another issue that Oli discussed with Prime Minister Deuba was the skyrocketing market price.

He drew the PM’s attention to the issue.

Oli drew attention to Prime Minister Deuba to control the price increase.

Minister of Communications, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, who was also present during the meeting, said that Prime Minister Deuba has taken UML Chairman Oli’s suggestions positively.

Prime Minister Deuba assured Oli that the November 20 elections would be free, fair, fair and credible.

“The government is committed to conducting fair elections,” Prime Minister Deuba told UML Chairman Oli.
