Samajwadi Morcha candidates will contest in 165 constituencies in upcoming elections

CPN-Maoist Center leader Barshaman Pun has said that he will be a candidate for Samajwadi Morcha in the parliamentary elections to be held in November.

Speaking to reporters in Baneshwar on Sunday afternoon, Maoist Center leader Pun said that leftist parties have reached an agreement to contest the polls under the new alliance.

“Maoist Center, CPN United Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Baburam Bhattarai and Bamdev Gautam have agreed to form a Samajbadi Morcha,” Pun said. We are ready to contest in 165 constituencies. Depending on the need, there may be coordination with Nepali Congress (NC) in some places.

Parliamentary probe panel seeks CCTV footage of Singha Durbar entrance gates

The Parliamentary Special Committee investigating budget tampering against former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has sought closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of Singha Durbar’s entrance gates after CCTV footage of the Finance Ministry of May 28 and May 29 could not be found.

The special committee’s meeting held on Sunday took such a decision.

According to the panel’s secretary Surendra Aryal, they have sought CCTV footage of Singha Durbar’s south and west entrance gates while they await a report from the forensic lab of Nepal Police and it could take a while.

The panel has sent the hard drive containing the CCTV footage of the Finance Ministry to the forensic lab of Nepal Police to recover the deleted footage of May 28 and May 29. It has yet to receive a report from the lab.

Six dead, 16 injured in bus accident in Palpa

Six passengers died in a bus accident in Palpa on Sunday.

A bus with number 1 J 5952 en route Butwal from Gulmi met with an accident at Laguwa, Ribdikot Rural Municipality-2 of Palpa around 5 pm today.

According to Inspector Bir Dutt Pant of Lumbini Province Police Office, three women and three men died on the spot in the accident.

Tourism Ministry brings 74-point action plan for tourism rehabilitation

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has unveiled a 74-point action plan for the rehabilitation of the tourism industry.

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha unveiled the action plan at the ministry on Sunday.

The action plan clearly specifies the name of agencies responsible for implementing the plan with a clear timeline.

HoR passes prison management bill

The House of Representatives (HoR) has passed the ‘prison management bill, 2076’.

Home Minister Balkrishna Khand had presented a proposal seeking the passage of the bill received from the state affairs and good governance committee along with report.

Discussion on the bill followed the proposal made for its passage.

In the second meeting of the HoR, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota announced the unanimous passage of the bill.

Three crushed to death as roadside tree falls on vehicles

Three people have died when a roadside tree fell and crushed their vehicle at around noon in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, on Sunday.

More than a dozen were injured in the incident that involved a passenger mini-bus and a scooter.

Two bus passengers and one pillion rider died when the tree fell on them.

Chief of Traffic Police Office, Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, Raju Karki confirmed three people died and more than a dozen were injured in the incident.

NEPSE gains 61.05 points after monetary policy released

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained a whopping 61.05 points on Sunday after monetary policy for the fiscal year 2022/23 was announced on Friday. The index had lost 27.26 points last Friday.

The intraday low of NEPSE index today remained the opening index of 2027.80 points and the intraday high was also the closing 2,078.51 points. The stock market gained 3.03 percent on Sunday.

A total of 6,423,156 shares of 219 companies traded hands via 42,931 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 2.73 billion.

Nepal sees 347 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 347 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Sunday.

Out of the confirmed cases, 303 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 44 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,888 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 2,360 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,528 through the Antigen method.
