Obstruction of HoR will clear and MCC will be ratified: Govt Spokesperson Karki



KATHMANDU: Spokesperson of the government and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has expressed confidence that the obstruction of the parliament will clear and the United States grant will be ratified.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli had a discussion today, Thursday, after the scheduled House of Representatives (HoR) meeting was postponed as Business Advisory Committee could not agree on moving forward Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The discussions took place at UML Chair Oli’s office at parliament.

Talking to media persons after the NC-UML discussion, Minister Karki said, “The Prime Minister has initiated discussions with all sides concerned to reach possible consensus for the smooth functioning of the parliament and holding an in-depth discussion on MCC in the sovereign parliament.”

He said that the Prime Minister was trying to create an environment where the parliament would function with the consent of all and discussions on MCC would be held.

Meanwhile, the talks between PM Deuba and UML Chair Oli is to continue at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar this (Thursday) evening. Though the top brass was involved in the discussion at first, towards the end PM Deuba and Oli held one-two-one talks, said sources.

NC General Secretary Gangan Thapa confirmed that talks would continue in the evening as well.

Leaders including, UML Senior Vice Chair Ishwor Pokharel, UML Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Subash Nembang, NC General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and Communications Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, participated in the UML-NC meeting at the start of the meeting.
