COVID19: Over 100 branches of banks shut as more than 6,000 staffers contract virus



KATHMANDU: More than 100 branches of several commercial branches across the country have been shut with over 6,000 staff members contracting Covid-19 as of Sunday.

According to Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA), services at over 100 branches of various banks got affected as the majority of staff in branches concerned infected the coronavirus amid the third wave of the pandemic.

NBA Executive Director Anil Sharma informed that Nabil Bank reported the closure of the highest number of branches (19) whereas Rastriya Banijya Bank reported the closure of 15 of its branches.

Besides A-class commercial banks, several branches of B-class development banks, C-class finance companies and D-class microfinance companies have been closed across the country.

Banks and financial institutions in the country have been providing services by adopting strict health safety measures. However, they are struggling with the third wave of pandemic.
