Election Commission asks Finance Ministry to furnish details of fund transfer

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has asked the Ministry of Finance to furnish the details of the transfer of funds outside the approved annual budget for the current fiscal year following the declaration of the date for election.

The EC directed the Ministry to furnish the details on the transfer of fund released for the plans and programs of various ministries and bodies and on guarantee of source that it has carried out outside of the approved annual budget for fiscal year 2022/23, said EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel.

According to him, the Finance Secretary has been directed to furnish the details within 24 hours.

The government on July 4 announced that the election of the member of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly would be held in a single phase across the country on November 20.

The EC has stated that operation of new plans and programs in a different manner than the annual budget and programs approved by the Federal Parliament for fiscal year 2022/23 would adversely affect the fairness and integrity of the election.
